6 Days Rongai Route Kilimanjaro Climb
The 6 Days Rongai Route Kilimanjaro Climb is a scenic and quieter route to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, approaching the mountain from its northeastern side near the Tanzania–Kenya border. It offers a unique opportunity to experience the remote northern slopes of Kilimanjaro before crossing toward the southern side for the summit and descent.
Rongai is known for its relatively low traffic, diverse landscapes, and gradual approach through the mountain’s northern wilderness. The route begins near the cultivated areas around Rongai Gate before entering forest, moorland, and eventually the high-altitude alpine desert.
This 6-day itinerary includes an additional acclimatization day, allowing you more time to adjust to the increasing altitude before continuing toward Kibo Hut and the summit. The extra time also provides an opportunity to explore the area around Mawenzi Tarn, one of the most spectacular locations along the Rongai Route.
The summit attempt begins from Kibo Hut, taking you toward Gilman’s Point, Stella Point, and finally Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet), the highest point in Africa.
After reaching the summit, you descend through the Marangu side of Kilimanjaro, giving you different scenery on your way down.
The 6 Days Rongai Route is an excellent choice for trekkers seeking a quieter Kilimanjaro experience, dramatic mountain scenery, and a more gradual itinerary than the shorter Rongai programs.
