3 Days Mount Meru

Your Mount Meru adventure begins with a transfer from Arusha to Momella Gate, where registration and park formalities are completed before starting the trek. The trail enters the beautiful montane forest of Arusha National Park, offering an opportunity to experience the mountain's diverse vegetation and wildlife.

As you climb gradually through the forest, you may encounter wildlife such as giraffes, buffaloes, and various species of monkeys, depending on conditions and park regulations. For this reason, trekkers are normally accompanied by an armed park ranger on the mountain's lower sections.

The trail continues upward through increasingly scenic forest before reaching Miriakamba Hut, situated at approximately 2,514 metres. After arriving at the hut, enjoy dinner and rest in preparation for the next day's climb.

Distance: Approximately 8 km
Trekking Time: 3–5 hours
Elevation: 2,514 m → 3,570 m

After breakfast, continue climbing toward Saddle Hut. The trail becomes steeper as you leave the forest behind and enter the moorland environment.

Along the way, the landscape opens dramatically, providing beautiful views of Mount Meru's distinctive volcanic formations. If conditions permit, you can take an optional short walk toward Little Meru, which rises to approximately 3,820 metres and offers spectacular views of the surrounding area.

Return to Saddle Hut for dinner and rest. Because the summit attempt begins during the night, it is important to sleep early and conserve energy.

Descent: Approximately 13 km
Summit Elevation: 4,566 m
Trekking Time: 10–14 hours

The final and most demanding day begins during the early hours of the morning. After a light meal, begin the ascent toward Socialist Peak, following the steep trail along Mount Meru's crater rim.

The climb requires a steady pace and careful footing as you approach the higher elevations. As dawn approaches, reach Socialist Peak at 4,566 metres, the highest point of Mount Meru.

Take time to celebrate your achievement and enjoy the spectacular sunrise and surrounding volcanic scenery. On clear days, the views toward Mount Kilimanjaro are particularly impressive.

After the summit experience, descend back to Saddle Hut for a short rest before continuing down toward Miriakamba and eventually Momella Gate.

At Momella Gate, meet your vehicle and transfer back to Arusha, marking the end of your Mount Meru adventure.
